Temporary Redirect

3xx Redirection

RFC 9110

What it means

The resource is temporarily at a different URL, and the original HTTP method must be preserved. Unlike 302, a POST request stays a POST after redirect.

Common causes

  • Temporary redirect that must preserve HTTP method
  • Load balancer routing
  • Form resubmission scenarios

How to fix it

If the redirect is permanent, use 308. If temporary, ensure your client preserves the original method when following the redirect.
