4xx Client Error

RFC 9110

What it means

The client request lacks valid authentication credentials. The response must include a WWW-Authenticate header specifying the authentication scheme.

Common causes

  • Missing Authorization header
  • Expired token or session
  • Wrong API key
  • Token revoked

How to fix it

Include valid credentials in the Authorization header. Re-authenticate to get a fresh token. Check that the API key or token hasn't expired.

Example response

HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
WWW-Authenticate: Bearer realm="api"
